Poker Robber Men Arrested

Two men who robbed a home poker game were recently arrested. They forced their ways inside a residence at gun point. The two men, Key Martinez, 17, and Bryan Urena, 18, ran from police summoned when the home owner called 911. The men were charged with first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree robbery. The poker game consisted of seven men, one of whom responded to a knock on a side door; the two robbers forced their way in when the man answered. Three officers responded to the emergency call and chased down the robbers.

Bookies Score Somewhat With Tar Heels Cover

Despite any losses during the rest of Saturday, the online bookies managed to save face with a North Carolina Tar Heels cover, though it wasn’t necessarily a cover for those who bet LSU at -6 or less.

After opening as a -1 favorite, bookies like Bookmaker.com scrambled to adjust the North Carolina line following news that nearly their entire line had to be reshuffled thanks to over a dozen players being found ineligible to play.

The Tar Heels did manage to lose by a mere 6 points.

“It was a matter of when you placed your bet,” points out Don Shapiro of gambling911.com.  “If you wagered early enough, chances are you got a line under -6 for LSU prior to Thursday.”

The vast majority of gamblers wait until the 24 hours leading up to any game, something that favored the bookies in this scenario.

A review by gambling911.com found that most online sportsbooks did not move the line in this game above the number 5 until early Thursday morning.  By late Friday night it was already at 8 and by Saturday had skyrocketed to -10.

LSU was the single most bet on team of the first weekend’s 2010 College Football with 90 to 95 percent of the action reported on the Tigers at any given time.

WWE Grooming Kids for Poker?

The World Wrestling Entertainment company, headed up by Vince McMahon, fresh off an Aussie and China tour, is ramping up WWE poker, with it getting promoted on the official WWE website.

There’s a forum and various tournaments, using the names of superstars, wrestling moves and the like. Years ago McMahon rival Eric Bischoff dabbled in mixing wrestling and gaming together with mixed results. EB’s website says this on some of his business activities: BHE licensing has developed brand strategies, licensing opportunities, and retail distribution for entertainment brands including WWE, Playboy, Socko Energy, Hulk Hogan, LG, and WalMart. BHE licensing is currently working with Rainmaker Gaming Technologies and ID Gaming for a November launch of a Hulk Hogan branded line of slot machines at G2E in Las vegas.

Swing back to vegas in 1999 and it was the then World Wrestling Federation who bought a casino but it never got past concept stage. WWF proposed to open on the property best known as the Debbie Reynolds Hotel and casino, but now known as the royal Resort Hotel and casino. It’s understood they sold it roughly a year later for a few million dollars profit. McMahon now doing WWE poker may be a politically dangerous move, given his wifes’ Linda McMahon’s high profile position in American politics.

WWE poker isn’t anywhere close to being listed on pokerScout (yet) which lists the world’s most popular poker rooms, dominated by PartyGaming’s PartyPoker, pokerStars, PKR, iPoker, Full Tilt, Microgaming and others. WWE toured Australia last month but no mention was made of poker or gambling, online or offline. A few years ago Ric Flair’s association with gambling, namely Lotto, was tipped as a reason the company further distanced themselves from ‘The Nature Boy’. TNA pro wrestler, Kevin ‘Big Sexy’ Nash (formally ‘Vinnie vegas‘ and Diesel) has some links to online gaming and gambling on his official website, which may be a one off in the industry. Media Man on the other hand has pushed the envelope as has a number of gambling and gaming campaigns running on their Wrestling News Media website portal, featuring PartyGaming, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

WWE poker is not particularly impressive as yet, not to say that it won’t become a body slamming hit with both Yankees and Aussies. Most of McMahon’s other WWE entertainment themed side projects of late have been successful including WWE Studios, WWE action figures (Mattel) and WWE Comics. His past bombs included WBF (bodybuilding) and WWE backed American Football entitled XFL. At least he knew how to sell a land based casino for profit, so give the devil his due.

Oh, McMahon has joined Facebook, plugging himself into the social media phenom, but thus far seems to have resisted his own official Twitter account, but his company and wrestlers are Twitter maniacs (in a good way).

*Greg Tingle is a special contributor for gambling911

*Media Man http://www.mediamanint.com is primarily a media, publicity and internet portal development company. They cover a dozen industry sectors including gaming and offer political commentary and analysis.

2010 September 05, Elaine Chaivarlis

Chips

If you missed any of the news this week, don’t worry, you’ll find everything you’ve missed in the Weekly Turbo. The World poker Tour inked a deal with FSN for three seasons, and the World Series of poker Circuit added another stop on the schedule. Read on to find out more.

WPT on FSN

The World poker Tour has announced a broadcast and promotional agreement with Fox Sports Network that will cover the next three years of the tour. Seasons 9, 10 and 11 will all be broadcast on FSN with prime time national air times of 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Sundays, as well as additional airings throughout the week.

“As a leader in sports programming, FSN has been a great champion of the WPT and we are thrilled to make this long-term commitment as we celebrate a new day for the WPT,” WPT President Adam Pliska said. “The better airtimes, improved promotion and the increased number of repeat episodes promise to be a boon for fans and the perfect showcase for the exciting changes coming to the WPT starting in Season 9.”

The first episode of Season 9 will debut in January with some new additions for viewers. Kimberly Lansing is back this season and will take on an anchor role for the show. A new segment called “The Raw Deal” will be introduced and the royal Flush Girls will be on hand as well.

“FSN is excited to remain the home for The World poker Tour, which continues to deliver great ratings for our affiliates. WPT is one of the most respected brands in poker and will only grow stronger with the tremendous innovations they are bringing to the show in the new season,” FSN Vice President of Programming David Sussin said. “Our network has long been a showcase for the best poker on television, and we are very happy WPT will continue that tradition.”

If you’ve got $250,000 laying around and are looking for something to do with it, you could either share it with us, or you could head to Monte Carlo at the end of November for the biggest buy-in poker tournament ever. The 48-player $250,000 buy-in event will see a first-place prize of $5 million.

So who would you be rubbing elbows with if you bought into the behemoth of a tournament? Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Michael and Robert Mizrachi, Huck Seed, Gus Hansen, Johnny Chan, Freddy Deeb, Tony G, Bruno Fitoussi, Allen Cunningham, and John Hennigan are already confirmed for the televised International poker Players Association Championship.

If you’re just short of the buy-in, you can always try your hand at qualifying for a seat through $1,000 live satellites in Monaco or in Los Angeles at the Bicycle casino.

CoinFlip.com has more.

Oklahoma!

The World Series of poker has announced another stop on the 2010-2011 wsop Circuit – Oklahoma. The Choctaw casino Resort in Durant, Okla., will host its first wsop-C event next year from January 6 through 25. The casino has just completed a $300 million expansion, featuring a brand new 30-table poker lounge on its own floor in the casino. Ten wsop ring events will be part of the 54-event schedule for this stop.

“After visiting the property, it was a must that we brought a wsop Circuit stop to Choctaw casino Resort,” wsop Vice President Ty Stewart said. “This is a huge poker market that has clamored for high stakes tournament poker and we’re ecstatic to be hosting a wsop Circuit in this gorgeous property in Durant come January.”

With the addition of this event, the 2010-2011 wsop-C schedule includes 13 stops with one more expected to be added. Where can you get in on the action? Find out at WSOP.com.

Going Mobile

PokerNews launched a version of its website specifically for mobile sites on Wednesday. The site still includes all the news, videos, and live reporting coverage you’re used to, but is specifically formatted for smartphone devices such as iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

And the Nominees Are

The polls for the 2010 poker Hall of Fame were open to the public for two months. On August 31, they closed and the votes were tabulated to compile the top ten nominees for the 2010 HOF class. If you didn’t vote, you can’t complain when you read this list.

1. Chris Ferguson
2. Barry Greenstein
3. Jennifer Harman-Traniello
4. Dan Harrington
5. Phil Ivey
6. Linda Johnson
7. Tom McEvoy
8. Daniel Negreanu
9. Scotty Nguyen
10. Erik Seidel

There you have it. The top ten poker players (in alphabetical order) who are up for consideration for the 2010 HOF. Now what? Well, the poker Hall of Fame Governing Council will select the final players eligible for induction. Then the 16 living HOF members and a 17-person media panel, which includes PokerNews‘ Editor-in-Chief Matthew Parvis, will vote. Finally, the 2010 class will be inducted in November as part of the wsop Main Event Final Table festivities.

Lights, Camera, Action

This is for all of you Rounders fanatics who are on the edges of your seats waiting for Rounders 2. Box Office Magazine recently posted an interview with directors Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the two who penned the 1998 flick to get the inside scoop on when we can expect, Rounders 2.

“Everybody involved with that movie would love to find a way to credibly further the story, but none of us are going to trample on the memory of it and what that movie means to people,” Koppelman said. “It’s as alive as it needs to be and I think the moment that we all feel like there’s a compelling enough story we’ll all go make it, but that just hasn’t happened yet.”

Sorry folks, we’re sure you thought we were about to give you a release date or something. What we can tell you, though, is that the directing duo is currently scripting a film about the online gaming industry and Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to it.

“It’s not something that’s ready to go before cameras anytime soon, but we’re heavily into it,” Levien said.

The PokerNews Strategy Roundup: Railing the Durrrr Challenge, New Sample Videos and Even More PLO from Josh Tieman!

2010 September 05, Barry Carter

Josh Tieman

We are back with our regular round up of the action at PokerNews strategy. If you didn’t know about our recently relaunced training site, it includes some of the hottest online poker talent in the world taking you through their thought processes as they play. Our team of pros include Tony G, mass tabling god Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew, high stakes cash phenom Scott ‘URnotINdanger2’ Palmer, wsop bracelet winners Josh ‘LitleBastrd’ Tieman and James Mackey plus many more.

How the Other Half Live….
More brag posts from our team of big winners. In his latest blog Joe ‘hoodini10’ Udine looks back at an impressive August by anyone’s standards. He celebrated a win in the $150 rebuy and a 2nd in the $75 guaranteed on Full Tilt with an island hopping trip to Greece. He then followed it up on his return with a 3rd place and a chop in two of the recent UBOC events.

Tieman Rails the durrrr Challenge
It’s not just recreational players that rail the nosebleed games on Full Tilt, wsop bracelet winner Josh Tieman has been closely following the durrrr challenge and shared why he loves railing:

“There’s a minimum of 4 tables at once, and 50,000 hands. There’s no quitting or backing out, and huge swings are the norm. There’s also a clear winner and loser over a fairly large sample of hands. So often a nosebleed cash game session is only a few hundred hands or less and the person who runs better is usually the victor. While an inferior player can certainly still beat a better player through luck over 50,000 hands, it’s still a pretty hefty sample size, and the closest thing we’ll see to determining which nosebleed player is better than the other.”

See his full blog here.

The Pick of this Weeks Videos
Lots of great videos on a variety of disciplines have been uploaded in the last week but one that has really caught our eye was Josh ‘LittleBastrd’ Tieman playing heads up $1/$2 PLO. Josh is considered by many of his peers as one of the best heads up PLO players in the world and here he is taking on $1/$2 which is a level many of you will be familiar with.

Speaking of PLO we have part two of Evan Parkes win of the $35k guaranteed PLO tournament on Full Tilt, where he discusses deep stack and post flop play in length. Rayan Nathan also takes us through a deep run in an ftops turbo event, where he discusses adjusting to turbo MTTs.

Over on the pokerNews strategy Forum….
Last week we told you how Josh Tieman had literally spent hours answering PLO questions on the pokerNews strategy PLO forum, well he has been at it again. If you have any PLO questions or hands you want to discuss, you will be missing out if you don’t post in our PLO forum because where else can you find world class players answering your questions like this?

Also John ‘UMD Tennis’ O’Rourke has been very active on the mid stakes NLHE forums this week and those are also well worth a look.

New Sample Videos
If you want to sample just what we are talking about we have two new free sample videos from two of our best MTT coaches. Evan Parkes takes us through part 2 of a series of Wednesday night MTTs and his early chip accumulation strategy while Rayan Nathan discusses late tournament play in a $30,000 guaranteed 6 max event.

The Tiger Woods Effect: Could Wayne Rooney Antics Hurt Manchester United?

When Tiger Woods announced plans to play golf in all the Majors tournaments of 2010, oddsmakers offered the prop bet on how many Majors Woods would win.  Little did we know that Woods promiscuous sex antics were to eventually result in zero Majors wins.  Not only that, he played like an amateur.

Manchester United needs Wayne Rooney to play well.  But he too is about to experience the “Tiger Woods treatment” it appears.  Rooney appears to have been a little bit more generous, forking over £1,200 per session with a girl named Jenny Thompson, who freely admits being a hooker.

For now, these are just Jenny’s allegations following an exclusive interview with the News of the World, a Rupert Murdoch paper.

Could Rooney suffer the same fate as Tiger?

His off-the-field antics are bound to cause distractions.

Currently, Manchester United is listed at 8/1 odds to win the UEFA Champions Leagueat BetUS.com.

“I would not want my money on Man United at this time,” remarked Alistair Prescott, the European Sports Analyst for gambling911.com.  “Should this story have legs, it’s going to more than likely have an effect on Manchester United’s play for the next few weeks.”

The story broke during the early morning hours London time.

Ms. Thompson confessed, among other things: Wayne told us he’d never had a threesome before. He was shy and awkward – and me and my friend were left to do all the work.

“He didn’t want us to put on a lesbian sex show, he was more into two girls pleasuring him at the same time. But it was all over far too quickly.”

Prescott warns:  ”It is never wise to bet futures on teams that have scandals.  This is why in the States, punters have shied away from betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers with a sex scandal surrounding their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.  And it is why gamblers should never have bet Tiger Woods to win any Majors this year.”

This could get very ugly.

Wayne Rooney Affair With £1,200 Hooker While Wife Was Pregnant

In a scandalous report filed by the News of the World, England footballer Wayne Rooney is alleged to have spent several nights with a £1,200 per session hooker named Jenny Thompson….all while his wife Colleen was pregnant.

According to the shocking report, Jenny confessed to the London paper: “Wayne chased me with sex texts and paid in wads of cash. He didn’t seem to care he was betraying Coleen.”

He also wanted a threesome, claims Jenny.

Last night Jenny, 21, exclusively told the News of the World: “Wayne certainly enjoyed all our meetings and didn’t seem to care what he was doing to his wife.

“I think he believes he’s invincible and untouchable. As a woman, I wouldn’t like that done to me – especially if I was pregnant.”

In England, this is akin to the Tiger Woods sordid sex scandal.  Rooney has long enjoyed a carefully nurtured family man image, the NOTW points out.

The paper reveals how Rooney bedded the hooker at a popular five-star hotel in London, begged her to join him on tour with the Premier League side and even romped with her at a team party.

The call girl Jenny added: “I was at the bar in the VIP area with another escort girl and they called us over for a chat,” she said.

“We went for a smoke in the toilets with Wayne and his brother and exchanged phone numbers. At that point Wayne didn’t know what sort of work I did.”

After that chance meeting, Jenny claims that Rooney began texting her asking if she would like to meet up.

The Manchester United star would later meet up with Jenny and her vice girl friend at the Lowry Hotel.

“We both wore identical black lacy bra-and-brief sets specially bought from La Senza.

“Wayne told us he’d never had a threesome before. He was shy and awkward – and me and my friend were left to do all the work.

“He didn’t want us to put on a lesbian sex show, he was more into two girls pleasuring him at the same time. But it was all over far too quickly.”

“I asked Wayne if he’d ever been with vice girls before and then, all of a sudden, I remembered he HAD!

He wanted a threesome so my sexy pal joined us in bed… it was all over so quickly

“I told him, ‘I remember reading in the newspapers about you and the old granny!’ Wayne just laughed. He thought that was really funny.”

She added: “He wanted a threesome so my sexy pal joined us in bed… it was all over so quickly.”

Rooney’s Manchester United is listed with outright odds to win the Premiership at 3.20.

The East Carolina Pirates host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday afternoon at 2:00 EDT on ESPN 2. The Pirates are breaking in a new head coach, so expectations aren’t as high as they are accustomed too. The Golden Hurricane had a down year last year, but they expect to get back to their postseason ways this year. Tulsa is a -7.5 road favorite today, with a total of 59 points expected.

It’s very fitting that East Carolina starts the season as a home underdog. The Pirates are a proud program, but they have their backs against the wall this season. ECU has a new head coach, and are breaking in 15 new starters from a team that has won the Conference USA the past 2 seasons. Coach McNeill is putting his stamp on the program, as the Pirates are changing to a spread offense and a 4-3 defense.  Flat out, it’s going to take some time for his program to get accustomed to these drastic changes. Offensively, the Pirates will look to their passing game and WR Dwayne Harris in particular. Harris had 83 REC for 873 YDS last year, earning C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year. East Carolina has alot of work to do if they are going to make their 5th consecutive bowl game. Non conference road games at Virginia Tech and North Carolina figure to toughen this team up for the coming league schedule.

The Pirates are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games in September. The Over is 5-1 in the Pirates last 6 conference games.

This season is about redemption for Tulsa, and no better game illustrates this point than their season opener today. The Golden Hurricane are looking to get revenge against ECU, after the horrible 17-44 defeat last year. That humiliating loss was their worst defeat last year. Tulsa finished last season 5-7, the first time they didn’t play in the postseason since 2004. The biggest problem for this team last year appears to be a strength this year. The offensive line is completely in place, as opposed to last year when they had 8 different lineup variations. This line will be looking to protect quarterback G.J. Kinne. Kinne is a very talented QB, and he’s looking to lead this offense back to the days of 2007 and 2008 when Tulsa led the nation in total offense. Safety DeAundre Brown will lead this relatively underrated defense this year. Brown had 102 tackles last year, and he looks to lead a defense that welcomes back 2 other key tacklers. Tulsa has played to the under in 10 of their 12 games played on grass.

Tulsa is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in September. The Under is 10-2 in the Golden Hurricane’s last 12 games on grass.

Pregame.com projects the final score to be 31-21 in favor of Tulsa. The Under 59 points is the Total of the Day!

The texas Tech Red Raiders host the SMU Mustangs in Sunday evening College Football action, a battle of two Midwest teams that played in bowl games last season. Both teams are expected to contend in their respective conferences once again this year. texas Tech has a new coach, so the regime is a bit different when compared to the stability of SMU and June Jones. The Red Raiders are -13.5 favorites tonight, with a total of 60.5 points expected. This game will be broadcast by ESPN at 3:30 EDT.

For a team with remarkable consistency, it’s amazing to have so much turmoil on the sidelines. texas Tech remains the only Big 12 program to finish at least .500 in each of the conference’s 14 years. The Red Raiders will take the field without the services of former coach Mike Leach, as he was fired after 10 colorful seasons. In his place is former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. Tuberville has made waves in Lubbock, as he has stated publicly that the Red Raiders will win multiple championships under his watch. texas Tech will continue to be an offensive force, as they have an elite level passing offense. However, Tuberville has stated he wants to run the ball more frequently this year with Baron Batch. Batch rushed for nearly 900 YDS last year, including 14 TD’s. texas Tech has changed their defensive identity, switching to a 3-4 defense. The Red Raiders are also expected to play more players on the defensive side of the ball, as they look to shore up their 4th Quarter woes.

The Red Raiders are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Over is 4-1 in the Red Raiders last 5 non-conference games.

Southern Methodist is trying to prove that they are a team on the rise, as they look to reach a bowl game for the 2nd consecutive season. Head Coach June Jones has done an amazing job with this program, taking this team to a bowl game last year for the first time since 1984. The Mustangs were a surprising 8-5 last year, including 6-2 in league play. Coach Jones has stated that he expects a similar year this year, and he’s looking for QB Kyle Padron to lead the way. Padron really came on strong last year, culminating in an MVP performance at the Hawaii Bowl. Padron was able to put up big numbers in the June Jones offense, but most importantly he led them to a 5-1 SU record. The Mustangs have lost all world WR Emmanuel Sanders and RB Shawnbrey McNeal, so they have to break in some new skill position talent. This Mustangs 3-4 defense is improving every year, becoming more and more aggresive. For SMU to continue their rise to national prominence, this defensive unit must continue to improve.

The Mustangs are 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 games against the Big 12. The Under is 4-1-1 in the Mustangs last 6 road games.

Pregame.com projects the final score to be 31-27 in favor of the texas Tech Red Raiders. The SMU Mustangs +13.5 is the Side of the Day!
